Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24 last year. Fighting has been going on for more than a year between the armies of the two countries. Meanwhile, the Russian army has occupied several cities of Ukraine including Luhansk, Donetsk. Russia has even recognized those regions as its territory through a referendum. Last January, the Russian troops occupied the city of Mariupol by overpowering the Ukrainian troops.
And Putin visited Mariupol for the first time after coming under the control of Russian troops. He also visited an apartment building in the Nevsky district and spoke to local residents.
