Shakib Al Hasan, the regular captain of the Test team, is out of the field due to injury. There is no possibility of Shakib being able to play in the upcoming only Test match against Afghanistan. Who will lead Bangladesh in the absence of a regular captain? Such discussions have been going on for several days. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hossain Papon said the name of Liton Kumar Das.
Liton Das is the vice-captain of the Test team. In the captain’s absence he is naturally supposed to lead the way. Papon also said the same.
Papon said this while attending the 10th anniversary celebration of Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association on Friday (May 26) as the chief guest. In response to a question, he said, ‘Saqib Al Hasan (Test captain) is the vice-captain due to injury, he will be the captain. Liton Das is the vice-captain, I know that (Liton will lead). I haven’t heard anything else yet, how can I tell if I don’t hear it?’
Liton has no experience of leading Bangladesh in Tests. However, he has captained ODIs and T20Is. He has captained three matches in the absence of regular ODI captain Tamim Iqbal. He led the T20 in one match.
Bangladesh is scheduled to play a Test match against Afghanistan from June 14. The match is scheduled to be held at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
