The first season of franchise-based cricket league in the United States is going to start from July 13. English cricketer Jason Roy is going to sign a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Knight Riders for about three hundred thousand pounds. Roy himself confirmed the matter through a statement.
Yesterday Thursday (May 25), the popular cricket-based website ESPN Cricinfo reported, this T20 franchise league will start in August next year in Texas. Six teams from Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Texas and Washington will participate in it. Out of these four teams own four teams of IPL. The Los Angeles Knight Riders are going to sign a two-year contract with Jason Roy for about three million pounds.
However, there were rumors that Roy had canceled his contract with the England Cricket Board and moved to the United States permanently. However, Roy later said in a statement, ‘After some unwelcome speculations have been made in the last 24 hours, I want to make it clear that I am not leaving England, never will. Representing my country as a professional cricketer will be my greatest pride. Hope to play for England for many more years. This will prevail with me.’
However, Jason Roy also confirmed that he will play Major League Cricket. In a statement, he said, ‘I have had transparent and helpful discussions with the ECB regarding playing Major League Cricket. The ECB are happy to let me play in this competition, as long as I don’t have to pay them for the rest of the contract year.’
Jason Roy played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. Roy will play for the same franchise in Major League Cricket. However, nothing has been officially announced by the team yet. The team has not yet announced the name of any player in the foreign category. The names of Aaron Finch, Marcus Stoinis, Anrich Norkia, Wanindu Hasaranga, Quinton de Kock and Dasun Shanaka have already been announced as foreign stars in the new US league.
