Sports Desk: Bangladesh kept their hopes of winning the title alive by defeating India in SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship.

The hosts defeated India 1-0 in a life-and-death match at the capital’s Kamalapur Stadium on Friday.

Bangladesh got the first chance at the beginning of the match. Suravi Akand Preeti failed to get a foot on Pooja Das’s cross. After that, Sultana Akhtar could not hit the target even after receiving the ball. In the 16th minute of the match, the host Bangladesh was saved from conceding a goal.

The first half ended goalless. Bangladesh went ahead with a suicide goal by India’s Akhila Rajan in the 74th minute. The Indian defender sent the ball into his own net when Jyoti’s cross went to clear the head.

This is Bangladesh’s second win in three matches. On the other hand, India’s first loss in two matches. Bangladesh will play the last match against Nepal on March 28.

With today’s win, Bangladesh is on the second place in the table with 6 points from 3 matches. Russia tops the list with 6 points in two matches. On the other hand, India is third with 3 points in two matches. At the end of the round robin league, the team that tops the points table will win the title.
