Last December 14, Shuvendu Adhikari participated in the ‘Shivcharcha’ event in Asansol. After he passed out the blankets, the crowd broke into a frenzy. 3 people died after being crushed by it. Later the deceased Jhali Bauri’s son lodged an FIR against the organizers of the event, BJP councilor Chaitali Tiwari and her husband Jitendra Tiwari. Calcutta High Court rejects Chaitali Tiwari’s anticipatory bail plea. Then Chaitali approached the Supreme Court.

Jitendra Tiwari has already been arrested. On March 19, he was arrested from the Noida-Yamuna Expressway while visiting Delhi with his wife. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court granted protection to Chaitali Tiwari on Friday. The Supreme Court said that he cannot be arrested for now.
