Akhilesh Yadav Azam Khan | Azam Khan’s demand to return the membership of the Assembly, Akhilesh

Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav demanded the return of Azam Khan’s membership of the Legislative Assembly. Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Uttar Pradesh BJP Govt filed a false case against Azam Khan. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh alleged that a group of officers are also involved in this false case. Mulayam-putra demanded action against them.

A few days ago, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was declared innocent by the MP-MLA court. In 2019, Azam Khan was charged with hate speech over a speech. The lower court of Rampur sentenced him to three years on October 27, 2022 in that case. His MLA was dismissed in October 2022 as he was sentenced to three years in prison. By-elections have already been held in Ajam assembly seat Rampur. BJP candidate Akash Saxena won there defeating Samajwadi Party candidate.

In 2019, Azam Khan was accused of making hateful comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at a public meeting in Rampur. The Rampur Magistrate’s Court of Uttar Pradesh convicted him on the charge of that speech. The post of MLA was also dismissed as he was sentenced to 3 years in jail. MP MLA Court declared Azam innocent in the appeal case against Rampur court verdict. After the court’s verdict, legal complications have arisen over how to return Azam’s MLA post. Amaj Khan’s bail is an added advantage for the Samajwadi Party before the Lok Sabha polls, informed sources said.

Significantly, a defamation case was filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Magistrate’s Court of Surat, Gujarat, for his comments on Modi’s surname in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The court found him guilty in the last case on March 23. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Rahul’s membership was rejected the next day
